In the northern part of the range of this alliance, associated canopy trees include Abies balsamea, Betula papyrifera var. papyrifera, and Betula papyrifera var. cordifolia; shrubs include Vaccinium angustifolium, Vaccinium myrtilloides, Ribes glandulosum, Sorbus americana, and Acer spicatum; and typical herbs are Sibbaldiopsis tridentata, Solidago simplex var. randii, Juncus trifidus, Piptatherum pungens (= Oryzopsis pungens), and Clintonia borealis.
