Name: Nelumbo lutea Permanently Flooded Temperate Herbaceous Alliance
Reference: Southeastern Ecology Working Gro...
Description: This alliance includes essentially monospecific Nelumbo lutea communities, in either natural wetlands or in artificial impoundments, sometimes with scattered Cephalanthus occidentalis. Other floating-leaved aquatic plant species that may be present include Nuphar lutea ssp. advena and Nymphaea odorata. In shallow depressional wetlands in the Coastal Plain of Florida, Nelumbo lutea occurs in an admixture with Schoenoplectus tabernaemontani (= Scirpus tabernaemontani), Pontederia cordata, Juncus effusus, Typha latifolia, Eichhornia crassipes (alien), Hydrocotyle spp., and seasonally with floating aquatics, such as Salvinia minima, Spirodela spp., Lemna spp., and Azolla caroliniana.
