Description: This community, dominated by Castanea dentata and Quercus rubra, is broadly defined and poorly known, since the type is now extinct, due to the reduction of Castanea dentata to a stump-sprouting shrub by the introduction and spread of Cryphonectria parasitica (Chestnut Blight). This community was once common in the southern Appalachian Mountains.
