Name: Ribes lacustre Temporarily Flooded Shrubland Alliance
Reference: Western Ecology Working Group of...
Description: These riparian shrublands have been reported from the western side of the Bighorn Mountains of north-central Wyoming. Elevations range from 2070-2600 m. Sites are foothill canyons, on intermittent streams with beds of limestone cobbles and boulders, or near springs at the base of limestone talus or limestone bedrock. Sites are mesic, flat to moderately sloping with southern to western aspects. The alliance is characterized by a patchy short-shrub layer that is dominated by Ribes lacustre. Other short shrubs may include Rosa woodsii, Rubus idaeus and scattered Artemisia tridentata ssp. vaseyana and Juniperus communis. The herbaceous layer includes Mertensia ciliata and other forb species such as Maianthemum stellatum, Saxifraga odontoloma and graminoids such as Bromus ciliatus, Carex spp. and Poa secunda (= Poa juncifolia). Scattered tall shrubs (<3 m), such as Acer glabrum, Betula occidentalis, Cornus sericea (= Cornus stolonifera), or Salix bebbiana, are often present. Exotic forage species, such as Phleum pratense, Poa pratensis and the annual forb Taraxacum officinale, are present in many of the more disturbed stands near hay meadows.
