Description: This desert shrubland alliance of the Mojave and Colorado deserts grows on rocky, well-drained slopes between 50 and 2500 m elevation. The yearly precipitation totals are quite low, averaging between 10 and 25 cm. Year-to-year precipitation variability can be quite large. Stands of this shrubland have a sparse, emergent tree layer of 3-5% total cover of Yucca schidigera over a shrub canopy. Shrubs present may include Ferocactus cylindraceus, Pleuraphis rigida, Coleogyne ramosissima, Encelia farinosa, Opuntia spp., Echinocactus polycephalus, Agave deserti, Echinocereus engelmannii, Simmondsia chinensis, Peucephyllum schottii, and Ambrosia dumosa.
