Description: This plant association consists of stands of Populus angustifolia atop sand dunes in the San Luis Valley of south-central Colorado at 2300 m. Stands occur in an unusual environmental setting on braided, sandy streams adjacent to wind-driven, actively moving sand dunes. Populus angustifolia occurs on ridges of the sand dunes and increases in age with distance from the active stream channel.
