Description: This alliance accommodates calciphilic communities occurring on coastal sands, Amerindian shell middens, and natural shell deposits of the Outer Coastal Plain. Composition varies along a latitudinal gradient; associations have been defined for two separate geographic zones, one of the Atlantic Coast from northern Florida north to Virginia, and another in the Gulf Coast from Florida west to Texas.
