Description: This alliance occurs in tidal flats and alkali marshes of California and requires seasonally to permanently flooded areas with hypersaline, mixohaline, or mixosaline water chemistry. Elevations range from sea level to 2100 m. This alliance is dominated by one of two species of Ruppia; Ruppia cirrhosa at higher elevations and inland stands, and Ruppia maritima in the lowlands and coastal zone. Both species form submerged beds. Other species present may include Utricularia macrorhiza, Najas guadalupensis, Zannichellia palustris, Potamogeton foliosus, Myriophyllum spp., and Ceratophyllum spp.
