Description: This community occurs on isolated ridges surrounded by swamps in the floodplains of large Coastal Plain rivers, such as the Altamaha River, Georgia. The canopy is composed of Quercus virginiana, Pinus glabra, Carya glabra, Quercus austrina, and Quercus hemisphaerica. The subcanopy consists of Carpinus caroliniana ssp. caroliniana, Diospyros virginiana, Ilex opaca, and Halesia diptera. Prominent shrubs and woody vines include Vaccinium arboreum, Serenoa repens, and Vitis rotundifolia. Herbs are few, including Chasmanthium sessiliflorum, but can have substantial cover. Tillandsia usneoides and Pleopeltis polypodioides ssp. michauxiana are typical epiphytes.
