Name: Carex hoodii - Festuca idahoensis Herbaceous Vegetation Reference: Western Ecology Working Group of... Description: This plant association occurs in eastern Oregon, Washington and Idaho on high-elevation ridges of the Wallowa and Seven Devil mountains of the Blue Mountains ecoregional section. Sites range from gentle, broad, dissected plateau ridgetops to steep mountain sideslopes at 1830-2410 m (6000-7900 feet) elevation. Soils are moderately deep to deep silt loam. Stands are typically dense with high and diverse cover of sedges, grasses, and perennial forbs. Abundant Festuca idahoensis and Danthonia intermedia occur with a variety of different sedge and grass species, including Carex hoodii, Carex geyeri, Achnatherum occidentale (= Stipa occidentalis), and Koeleria macrantha. Commonly associated forbs are Lupinus argenteus var. laxiflorus (= Lupinus laxiflorus), Geum triflorum, Hieracium cynoglossoides (= Hieracium albertinum), Antennaria rosea, Arenaria congesta, and Symphyotrichum foliaceum (= Aster foliaceus). This association should not be mistaken as Festuca idahoensis - Carex hoodii Herbaceous Vegetation (CEGL001609), which is abundant in the Blue Mountains ecoregional section.
