Description: This community occurs in beaver-impounded sites along mountain streams in the Southern Blue Ridge and Ridge and Valley physiographic provinces. Vegetative composition is highly variable, but Juncus effusus is a characteristic dominant. The physiognomy of the type is also extremely variable. Examples of this community range from 0% shrub cover to much higher levels of cover depending upon the amount of time since inundation and the fluctuation of the water level over time.
