Name: Ranunculus flammula - Juncus nevadensis - Carex lenticularis Herbaceous Vegetation
Reference: Western Ecology Working Group of...
Description: This association occurs around the margin of Lake Ozette on the northwestern Olympic Peninsula of Washington. It is located along the waterward edge of the seasonally flooded zone. Soils are wet year-round and are sandy with some fibrous peat. The low-growing herbaceous vegetation is somewhat mat-forming and diverse in composition, typically with more cover of graminoids than forbs. Codominant species typically include one or more of the following, all of which are usually present: Juncus nevadensis, Ranunculus flammula, Carex lenticularis, and Carex obnupta, any one of which does not usually have over 20% cover. Equisetum fluviatile and Mentha arvensis are usually present. Species that are sometimes abundant but not always present are Carex aquatilis var. dives, low-growing Myrica gale, and Comarum palustre. It differs from the somewhat similar Carex obnupta - Argentina egedii ssp. egedii Herbaceous Vegetation (CEGL001820) in habitat, lesser amounts of Carex obnupta, and the presence of Carex lenticularis, Equisetum fluviatile, and Mentha arvensis.
