Description: This alliance occurs in seasonally flooded depressional wetlands in the southeastern Coastal Plain. These depressions are of various origins, including limesink ponds, interdune swales, Carolina bays, and other Coastal Plain ponds and lakes. Hydrology varies from short flooding to that of long seasonal duration. Fuirena scirpoidea is characteristic; a number of Rhynchospora spp. also typically occur, including such species as Rhynchospora tracyi, Rhynchospora cephalantha, Rhynchospora filifolia, Rhynchospora corniculata, and Rhynchospora latifolia.
