Description: Emergent marsh dominated by broad-leaved, aerenchymatous plants along pondshores, lakeshores, impoundments, and quiet riverbanks in the northeastern United States and elsewhere. This marsh occurs in shallow to deep standing water usually on muck soils. Common species include Pontederia cordata, Sagittaria latifolia, Peltandra virginica, and Sparganium spp. Additional emergent species include Eleocharis palustris, Schoenoplectus tabernaemontani (= Scirpus validus), Acorus calamus, Nuphar lutea ssp. variegata (= Nuphar variegata), Nymphaea odorata, Sium suave, and submerged species including Ceratophyllum demersum and Utricularia macrorhiza (= Utricularia vulgaris).
