Description: This association is characterized by a short-shrub layer dominated by Purshia tridentata. Numerous other shrubs occur in low abundance. The most common are Ribes cereum, Prunus virginiana, and Rubus deliciosus. The herbaceous layer is dominated by Muhlenbergia montana. Numerous other graminoids and forbs are present in minor amounts. This association generally occurs on steep, rocky, south-facing slopes at elevations from 7000-8600 feet. The association often occurs in rocky openings in Pinus ponderosa or Pinus contorta forests.
