Description: This grassland association is found in the northern Great Plains and in the eastern foothills of the northern U.S. Rocky Mountains. Stands generally grow on slopes with shallow soils. Pseudoroegneria spicata dominates the vegetation, and rhizomatous wheatgrasses (Pascopyrum smithii or Elymus lanceolatus) are abundant. Forbs and shrubs contribute little cover.
