Common associates include ~Ziziphus obtusifolia, Prosopis glandulosa, Quercus mohriana, Quercus pungens, Quercus havardii, Dalea formosa, Yucca$ spp., ~Bouteloua gracilis, Bouteloua curtipendula, Tridens$ spp., ~Sporobolus$ spp., and ~Pleuraphis mutica (= Hilaria mutica)$. These woodlands often occur within a grassland-shrubland matrix.
