Description: Associations in this alliance occur as fairly sparse to essentially continuous mats in thin soils around high-elevation rock outcrops in the Southern Blue Ridge (largest occurrences to 1-2 hectares). This shrubland has a matted krummholz structure and occurs in northern parts of North Carolina.
