Name: Potentilla flabellifolia Herbaceous Alliance
Reference: Western Ecology Working Group of...
Description: This alliance occurs in subalpine areas in the Washington Cascade Mountains. Elevations range from 1650-1980 m. Vegetation grows lushly on these mesic, gentle to steep slopes with cooler northern and eastern aspects. Sites are often near streams, lakes, below seeps or in other areas that receive moisture from melting snowdrifts most of the growing season. This lush meadow has a dense herbaceous layer that is codominated by the perennial forbs Potentilla flabellifolia and Polygonum bistortoides. Other consistent species include Carex spectabilis, Lupinus latifolius, Pulsatilla occidentalis (= Anemone occidentalis), Antennaria lanata, Castilleja parviflora var. oreopola, Erigeron peregrinus, Festuca viridula, Valeriana sitchensis, and Veronica cusickii.
