Description:
This community occurs in seasonally flooded, short hydroperiod situations in depressional wetlands. At Paynes Prairie (a 6000-hectare basin in the Florida peninsula), this community has the shortest hydroperiod of the various graminoid-dominated communities. It is dominated by various mixtures of Andropogon capillipes, Andropogon glaucopsis, Andropogon glomeratus var. hirsutior, Andropogon virginicus, Rhynchospora fascicularis var. fascicularis, Rhynchospora microcarpa, Juncus marginatus, Glottidium vesicarium (= Sesbania vesicaria), and Rhexia mariana. Other characteristic species are Eupatorium capillifolium, Panicum hemitomon, Eupatorium mohrii, Ludwigia suffruticosa, Ludwigia microcarpa, Hibiscus grandiflorus, Rhynchospora caduca, Euthamia caroliniana (= Euthamia tenuifolia), Fimbristylis sp., Hydrocotyle spp., Ptilimnium capillaceum, Boehmeria cylindrica, Paspalum notatum, and Paspalum urvillei.
