Name: Quercus fusiformis - (Quercus stellata) / Schizachyrium scoparium Granite Woodland
Reference: Southeastern Ecology Working Gro...
Description: This woodland is stunted (2-15 feet tall) and occurs on the rocky granite slopes of Quartz Mountain (northwestern Comanche County), where it is found in association with Quercus stellata - Quercus marilandica-dominated woodlands. It also occurs at other locations in the Wichita and Quartz mountains of Oklahoma (Comanche, Greer, and Kiowa counties). In these areas, Quercus fusiformis is thought to be associated with areas that are not as extreme as those dominated by Quercus stellata and Quercus marilandica. More information is needed on the relationship of this association to associations occurring in central Texas.
