Description: Seasonally flooded upland depressions in the lower Piedmont of North Carolina dominated by shrubs, primarily Leucothoe racemosa, Vaccinium fuscatum, Smilax walteri, Vaccinium formosum, Viburnum nudum var. nudum, and others. Trees may be interspersed among the shrubs, and species such as Liquidambar styraciflua, Acer rubrum var. rubrum, Pinus palustris, and Pinus taeda may be present. Herbaceous species that may be present include Carex crinita, Carex glaucescens, Eleocharis sp., Rhynchospora sp., Scleria sp., and Utricularia gibba.
