Description: This community is very restricted in range, occurring only in Brunswick County, North Carolina, where it is the main wetland Pinus palustris community in an region of perhaps 200-300 square km. Pinus palustris dominates the open canopy. The shrub layer is strongly dominated by Leiophyllum buxifolium, or Vaccinium crassifolium ssp. crassifolium may codominate. Other shrubs, such as Ilex glabra, may also be present. Aristida stricta is sparse to dense. Pleea tenuifolia is often an herb-layer dominant. Other typical species include Polygala spp., Rhexia spp., Xyris jupicai, and Drosera intermedia.
