Name: Alnus rhombifolia / Prunus virginiana Forest
Reference: Western Ecology Working Group of...
Description: This riparian plant association is reported from data collected in the Snake and Salmon river corridors, within the Blue Mountains ecoregional section. The association occurs on stable stream channels within an elevational band of 1950-2350 feet, in the deeply incised terrain of the Salmon River Canyon. Stands of the forest plant association are dominated by broad-leaved, deciduous tree species. Alnus rhombifolia is codominant with Prunus virginiana. Dispersed individuals of Populus balsamifera ssp. trichocarpa are also present. Philadelphus lewisii, Sambucus caerulea, Crataegus douglasii, Acer glabrum, Ribes oxyacanthoides ssp. irriguum (= Ribes irriguum), Lonicera utahensis and Holodiscus discolor are often associates of the broad-leaved deciduous shrub understory. Characteristic forbs include Galium aparine, Claytonia perfoliata (= Montia perfoliata), Stellaria media, Dryopteris filix-mas, Claytonia sibirica (= Montia sibirica), Maianthemum stellatum, Fragaria vesca, and Adenocaulon bicolor.
