Description: This association is an open woodland typified by large fire-resistant trees, found on the eastern edge of the Columbia River Gorge and at drier areas in western Oregon. It has only been found east of the Cascades in Washington and may occur California. Elevations range from 150-1100 m (500-3600 feet). Stands occur on all aspects with slopes averaging 27%. Soils are unknown, but probably well-drained. The tree canopy is dominated by Pinus ponderosa and Quercus garryana with 18% and 7% mean cover, respectively. The shrub layer includes sparse cover of Symphoricarpos albus (7%) and Purshia tridentata (3%). Mean cover of forbs includes Lupinus spp. (3%) and Collomia grandiflora (2%).
