Name: Salix wolfii / Carex utriculata Shrubland
Reference: Western Ecology Working Group of...
Description: In Colorado, this riparian shrubland is an uncommon community of very wet subalpine sites on the western slope of the Rocky Mountains. Salix wolfii grows in small patches with an herbaceous layer dominated by Carex utriculata, and does not form large, expansive willow carrs like Salix planifolia. Salix wolfii often forms a mosaic with stands of Salix planifolia, Salix brachycarpa, and open Carex spp. meadows. Information on stands outside Colorado will be added later.
