Name: Dasiphora fruticosa ssp. floribunda / Deschampsia caespitosa Shrubland
Reference: Western Ecology Working Group of...
Description: In Colorado, these riparian shrublands form an open, low-shrub layer dominated by Dasiphora fruticosa ssp. floribunda (= Pentaphylloides floribunda) with thick cover of bunch grasses. The dominant graminoid is Deschampsia caespitosa. Most stands of this association appear to be grazing-induced. Dasiphora fruticosa ssp. floribunda increases in abundance with continuous, season-long grazing within a riparian area, and Deschampsia caespitosa is highly palatable to livestock. Information on stands that occur outside Colorado will be added later.
