Reference: Southeastern Ecology Working Gro...
Description: Depressional sinkhole wetlands dominated by Nyssa ogeche, occurring in a matrix of pine flatwoods, not associated with river floodplains, in the outer southeastern Coastal Plain of South Carolina and Georgia. Nyssa ogeche is generally strongly dominant, although Taxodium ascendens can also be present. Ilex myrtifolia is often common as a small tree or large shrub. Typical herbaceous species are Carex striata, Carex glaucescens, Carex verrucosa, and Woodwardia virginica. This community is influenced by fire that burns into or through it during drought periods from adjoining pine flatwoods.
