Name: Lupinus spp. - Poa spp. Herbaceous Vegetation
Reference: Western Ecology Working Group of...
Description: This herbaceous alpine vegetation type has been described from Carter Mountain along the eastern side of the Absaroka Mountains in northwestern Wyoming. The sites on which stands of this association grow are the middle parts of steep, lee (easterly) slopes where snow accumulates early and remains until mid-summer. Soils on these sites are deep. The vegetation is dense and two-layered, with Lupinus argenteus forming a tall (40 cm) herbaceous layer above a shorter herbaceous layer of Poa spp., Geum rossii, the cushion forb Arenaria congesta, and other species. The species of Poa found in this type are unidentified in the literature.
