Name: Pluchea sericea Seasonally Flooded Shrubland Alliance
Reference: Western Ecology Working Group of...
Description: This evergreen shrub-scrub vegetation type grows in seasonally and permanently flooded wetlands in southern California and the Mojave and Colorado deserts. The elevational range of the type is between sea level and 600 m. Stands occur in canyon bottoms, irrigation ditches, streamsides, and along the margins of springs. The nominal species can tolerate both fresh and somewhat brackish water. Stands are dominated by Pluchea sericea that often forms pure stands. Typha angustifolia and/or Salix exigua may be present. Secondary species vary regionally. Pluchea sericea stands may form a fine mosaic with other wetland alliances.
