Name: Juniperus occidentalis / Purshia tridentata / Festuca idahoensis - Pseudoroegneria spicata Wooded Herbaceous Vegetation
Reference: Western Ecology Working Group of...
Description: This community exists as a savanna with scattered Juniperus occidentalis. Stands are found in east-central Oregon at elevations of 915-1510 m (3000-4950 feet) and may also occur in California. Sites occur on all aspects with slopes typically less than 30%, often at or near ridge-tops. Soils are coarse sandy loams to loams with a stony character, usually derived from pumice or basalt. The vegetation is dominated by Juniperus occidentalis trees with 3-40% cover. A shrub layer of 6-20% Purshia tridentata cover is present. The graminoid layer is composed of Festuca idahoensis and Pseudoroegneria spicata with <1-35%, and <1-25% canopy cover, respectively.
