Description: This plant association is a shaded forest with few to no shrubs and a thick to open carpet of Carex aquatilis along the streambanks. In Colorado it occurs below 10,000 feet (3000 m) on saturated soils along narrow streams and adjacent to willow carrs and sedge fens. In Oregon it occurs on streambanks and terraces between 4800-5400 feet of the Blue Mountains. The undergrowth of this association is dominated by Carex aquatilis with Calamagrostis canadensis as an occasional a codominant.
