Description: This sandhill community occurs on dry, sandy well-drained soils in the Coastal Plain of eastern Georgia and possibly elsewhere. The open canopy is dominated by Pinus palustris. Quercus laevis dominates the scrub oak stratum, and can vary from dense to sparse and from shrub sprouts to small trees, depending on fire history. The herb layer is dominated by Aristida beyrichiana. Other constant species are Andropogon gyrans var. gyrans, Andropogon virginicus var. virginicus, Aureolaria pectinata, Commelina erecta, Dichanthelium acuminatum, Diospyros virginiana, Eupatorium compositifolium, Euphorbia exserta, Licania michauxii, Opuntia humifusa, Quercus incana, Serenoa repens, Tephrosia virginiana, Tillandsia usneoides, and Vaccinium stamineum (low clonal variety).
