Description: This alliance includes deciduous shrublands on stabilized dunes in the Panhandle, High Plains, and far northeastern Trans-Pecos (Monahans-Kermit Sand Hills) in Texas and in westernmost counties of Oklahoma (Ellis, Roger Mills, Beckham, and Woodward counties). Composition varies with precipitation and with the depth and degree of dune stabilization. In the Trans-Pecos large areas of degraded sand sheet are dominated by nearly continuous stands of ~Quercus havardii$, while a few areas of open destabilized dunes are present. In the northern portion of the range, large areas of open grassland with scattered patches of ~Quercus havardii$ occur with ~Schizachyrium scoparium var. scoparium (= Schizachyrium scoparium ssp. neomexicanum), Andropogon gerardii (= Andropogon gerardii var. chrysocomus), Panicum virgatum, Sporobolus cryptandrus, Sporobolus giganteus, Calamovilfa gigantea, Yucca campestris, Prosopis glandulosa var. glandulosa$, and ~Artemisia filifolia$. In western Oklahoma, these shrublands include the associates ~Quercus mohriana$ and ~Quercus prinoides$.
