Name: Cercocarpus ledifolius / Artemisia tridentata ssp. vaseyana Woodland
Reference: Western Ecology Working Group of...
Description: This is a very open sagebrush-dominated woodland association. It is documented in southeastern Oregon and possibly occurs in the Owyhee Uplands of Idaho and in scattered mountain ranges in the northern Great Basin region of Nevada and California. Sites are well-drained loams over basalt or rhyolite. Elevations range from 1600-1950 m (5250-6400 feet). Aspects are generally south with slopes ranging from 0-40%. The tree layer typically is dominated by Cercocarpus ledifolius var. ledifolius which averages 50% cover. Common shrubs are Artemisia tridentata ssp. vaseyana, Ericameria nauseosa (= Chrysothamnus nauseosus) and Chrysothamnus viscidiflorus with 5%, 3%, and 3% cover, respectively. Elymus elymoides (= Sitanion hystrix) (3%) and Achnatherum lemmonii (= Stipa lemmonii) (4%) are the most common grasses in the sampled stands, but Festuca idahoensis, Pseudoroegneria spicata and Poa secunda are also usually present.
