Description: This association contains Thuja-dominated forests of limestone bedrock bluffs, on islands adjacent to Lake Champlain, and also in association with alvar grasslands. Canopy associates include Pinus strobus, Pinus resinosa, Picea glauca, and scattered deciduous trees, such as Quercus rubra, Fraxinus americana, and Acer saccharum. The ground flora is sparse, characterized by Carex eburnea, Carex backii, and ferns such as Polypodium virginianum, Cypripedium arietinum, Dryopteris intermedia, Waldsteinia fragarioides, and Cystopteris bulbifera. Several additional species are found occasionally in this community, including Adlumia fungosa, Asclepias quadrifolia, Quercus muehlenbergii, and Asplenium rhizophyllum.
