Name: Picea pungens / Cornus sericea Woodland
Reference: Western Ecology Working Group of...
Description: In Colorado, these montane riparian woodlands are cool and moist, occurring in deep narrow canyons. The evergreen needle-leaved tree canopy is dominated by Picea pungens, and densely shades the open to dense shrub layer dominated by Cornus sericea. It was once a more common type and represents slightly more stable habitats than those of the Picea pungens / Alnus incana Woodland (CEGL000894). Information on stands that occur outside Colorado will be added later.
