Description: This alliance consists of bayheads with open canopies, typically in the 'downstream' or 'tail' portion of tree islands in the Shark Slough drainage of the Everglades. Canopy trees include Magnolia virginiana, Persea palustris, Chrysobalanus icaco, Salix caroliniana, Ilex cassine, Morella cerifera (= Myrica cerifera), and Annona glabra. Similar to tropical bayheads [see I.A.3.N.f] but with an open canopy and a much better-developed herbaceous stratum.
