Name: Acer negundo Seasonally Flooded Forest Alliance
Reference: Western Ecology Working Group of...
Description: Limited information is available about this riparian alliance. Stands have been described from the Wasatch Range in Utah where they occur on nearly level stream terraces below 1830 m in elevation, and where slopes are less than 3%. The water table is seasonally within 1 m of the surface, as indicated by the presence of distinct mottles. Soil texture is generally coarse-loamy to fine-loamy. Stands in this forest alliance are dominated by Acer negundo in the tree canopy and Equisetum arvense in the herbaceous layer. Other woody vegetation is sparse. Other herbaceous species present may include Maianthemum stellatum, Mentha arvensis, and Elymus glaucus. Some exotic graminoids, such as Poa pratensis or Agrostis stolonifera, may be common in some stands. Quercus gambelii or other low-elevation tree and shrub communities may dominate adjacent uplands.
