Name: Salix boothii / Carex utriculata Shrubland
Reference: Western Ecology Working Group of...
Description: In Colorado, this riparian shrubland occurs in the wettest micro-habitats of the floodplain, including low floodplains adjacent to beaver ponds and low areas between beaver dams. The ground is very wet, and the water table is at or near the soil surface all season long. Stands have a short to tall (1-4 m), closed, broad-leaved, deciduous shrub canopy that is dominated by Salix boothii with an herbaceous layer of Carex utriculata. Information on stands that occur outside Colorado will be added later.
