Description: This riparian shrubland alliance of the Columbia Plateau and Palouse region occur on slopes, in canyons, and forest openings in the mountains. The substrate is usually exposed, but surface water can be present for variable periods without detectable seasonal periodicity. Inundation is not predictable to a given season and is dependent upon highly localized rainstorms. ~Philadelphus lewisii$ dominates the shrub layer. Additional information on landforms, soils, and adjacent upslope vegetation was not available.
