Description: Shrublands in this alliance occur within and along drainages that dissect bajadas and mesas in the Chihuahuan Desert.. They are restricted by the arid climate to arroyo riparian zones and adjacent floodplains. The best examples of this community are in the lower portions of the arroyo where the streambed widens. These communities are dependent on the intermittent flows/flooding of the channel to supplement soil moisture. This alliance includes riparian shrublands dominated by ~Brickellia laciniata$. Other common shrubs include ~Hymenoclea monogyra, Fallugia paradoxa, Rhus microphylla$, and ~Baccharis salicifolia (= Baccharis glutinosa)$.
