Name: Pinus jeffreyi - Pinus monticola / Arctostaphylos nevadensis Woodland
Reference: Western Ecology Working Group of...
Description: This woodland has diverse tree species with highly variable heights and diameters within stands, but is usually underlain by a sparse understory. It thrives on a high variety of habitats in the Klamath-Siskiyou region of Oregon and may also occur in California. Elevation ranges from 680-1870 m (2220-6140 feet). Sites are found on slopes of 1-51% on all aspects. Soils are typically ultrabasic with 46% cover of rocks. The multi-layer tree canopy is dominated by Pinus jeffreyi with an average of 19% cover. Other overstory trees include Pinus monticola (4%), Calocedrus decurrens (5%), and Pseudotsuga menziesii (44%). Understory trees are Pinus jeffreyi (17%), Pinus monticola (9%), Pseudotsuga menziesii (6%), and Chamaecyparis lawsoniana (3%). Arctostaphylos nevadensis occupies 17% of the understory. Sites show little evidence of fire.
