Description: Pseudotsuga menziesii / Amelanchier alnifolia Forest occurs on cool slopes at mid-elevations in the Bear's Paw Mountains of north-central Montana. Stands are dominated by Pinus ponderosa in seral condition, but Pseudotsuga menziesii is the indicated climax. Prunus virginiana, Amelanchier alnifolia and Spiraea betulifolia dominate the understory. Characteristic forbs are typical of dry forest. Soils are loamy, gravelly and slightly acidic.
