Description: In Oklahoma, this association occurs in moist to wet soils in riparian corridors, throughout Oklahoma except the panhandle. The canopy of this forest is characteristically dominated by some combination of Ulmus americana, Celtis laevigata, Celtis occidentalis, and Fraxinus pennsylvanica. Other characteristic species include Carya cordiformis, Carya illinoinensis, Juglans nigra, Quercus macrocarpa, and Quercus shumardii in the canopy and subcanopy, as well as Arisaema dracontium, Chasmanthium latifolium, Cocculus carolinus, Elephantopus carolinianus, Elymus virginicus, Sambucus canadensis, and Sapindus saponaria var. drummondii as herbs and shrubs. In addition, Juglans microcarpa is a common associate in Caddo, Kiowa, and Greer counties, Oklahoma.
