Name: Quercus garryana / Elymus glaucus Woodland
Reference: Western Ecology Working Group of...
Description: This is a deciduous riparian woodland association found below lower timberline in the eastern Cascades near the Columbia River gorge, and in interior valleys of northern California. These sites occur along streams generally between 1300-3000 feet. The existing vegetation is characterized by an open to closed Quercus garryana layer occasionally with scattered taller Populus balsamifera ssp. trichocarpa or Pinus ponderosa trees. Rosa woodsii or Prunus virginiana may be present often in patches but are never in abundance. The herbaceous layer is graminoid-dominated primarily of Elymus glaucus. The exotics Poa pratensis or Bromus tectorum can be abundant in disturbed stands.
