Description: This community occurs in the driest and hottest part of central Washington. It is an open shrubland community with a sparse and species poor herbaceous layer. Grayia spinosa is often the only shrub although it can be codominant with Artemisia tridentata on disturbed and transitional sites. Poa secunda is the dominant grass (20-40% cover typically) and frequently is the only perennial grass. Forb diversity is low. Least disturbed sites have a soil moss and lichen crust and few annuals. Disturbed sites have little or no moss/lichen cover and an abundance of exotic annuals such as Bromus tectorum.
