Name: Picea engelmannii / Heracleum maximum Forest
Reference: Western Ecology Working Group of...
Description: These riparian forests are restricted to the southern parts of the Colorado Rockies. Stands occur at the upper elevational limit of Populus angustifolia. The tree canopy is a mixture of needle-leaved evergreen and broad-leaved deciduous trees and is an unusual combination codominated by Abies lasiocarpa, Picea engelmannii, and Populus angustifolia. The shrub layer is dominated by Lonicera involucrata. Information on stands that occur outside Colorado will be added later.
