Description: This association is reported from the central Sierra Nevada. The known occurrences are on the dry, well-drained, gently sloping margins of subalpine meadows south and northeast of Lake Tahoe. Elevation ranges from 2658 to 2853 m (8720-9360 feet), and the soils are very acidic (pH 4.7). Vegetative cover averages 70%. Stands are dominated by Carex straminiformis, usually with Achnatherum lettermanii and Achnatherum nelsonii ssp. dorei. The forb component is significant and may include Gayophytum diffusum, Cistanthe umbellata (= Calyptridium umbellatum), and Draba albertina.
