Description: This forest occurs in active floodplains and in relict stream sloughs in the outer portions of the West Gulf Coastal Plain; this region is sometimes considered the pine flatwoods part of the region. Dominant canopy species are typically Quercus laurifolia, Liquidambar styraciflua, Nyssa biflora, and Acer rubrum. It also appears to occur on flats in a pine flatwood landscape. Sabal minor can be common in the shrub layer.
